DotAsia Board Chair Remarks

The past months have been active for the Board and for DotAsia staff. Developing policies have been a major preoccupation as we build up our resources to strengthen our Governance, Financial and Community Project frameworks. One that is of importance for us at the moment is our Board Election Process which has been reviewed. To help us with this development, we are incorporating the experience and support of our newly reconvened DotAsia AdvisoryCommittee (AC). The AC is a group of regional internet-related organisations with whom DotAsia has developed a relationship over the years and who have agreed to assist and support DotAsia in achieving its mission and goals. They consist of many organisations with whom we are already working closely on community projects. Consulting with them and receiving their helpful advice as we plan new community projects and develop new policies that will impact our DotAsia community, are a part of the ongoing improvements we wish to establish within our organisation. We look forward to further engagement and collaboration with this diverse and experienced community group.

Secondly, I must offer thanks and congratulations from the Board for the amazing team support that was contributed by our DotAsia staff to the success of the first virtual Asia Pacific IGF (APrIGF 2020). The APrIGF is a regular event on the DotAsia calendar as one of its core community projects where DotAsia is a sponsor and some members of the DotAsia Board and the AC also contribute as both MSG members and participants. This year, the event was originally planned to be held in Kathmandu in Nepal, and it is proposed that if pandemic conditions allow, it will be held in Nepal in 2021. We look forward to our continued engagement with the APrIGF in the future.
